December Monthly Kit with Karla!

Hello! It's Karla here today with a layout using the fabulous new Scrap Shotz December Monthly Kit, featuring the Carta Bella Cabin Fever collection. I am truly amazed at everything in this kit as well as the add-on's available, and I can't wait to share it with you!!

I'm using the fabulous sketch from the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Sketchy Challenge as inspiration for my layout. I used an older circle cutting system in my stash to cut out patterned paper circles, but you could grab some plates, cups, or anything circular!

The epoxy stickers in the kit are gorgeous. I love how they are semi-translucent and have such a cool feel! There are a package that comes with the kit as well as some epoxy words, which are a lovely add-on! The beautiful sweater print and plaid papers in this collection are just so perfect to scrap all your winter pics, and I love how well they all coordinate together!

I really had fun with the rub-ons (an add-on available!!), which transferred beautifully to the Bazzill cardstock in the kit. I used mitts and snowflakes around the page and the Oh What Fun sentiment. The sticker sheet as well is fabulous and has tons of really amazing stickers - perfect for scrapbooking or cards!

The red and white sweater print border is so lovely, and the full patterned sheet of cut apart borders are a quick and easy addition to a page. I really enjoyed layering all the fun elements included in this kit, and I can't wait to create a lot more!!

Scrap Shotz September Kit Projects with Sylvie

I'm back again today showcasing the September Kit using the Carta Bella Transatlantic Travel collection.

First up is a layout I created using this fabulous sketch from Stuck? Sketches.

I started with a piece of cardstock from the kit and using the smooshing technique I applied some Distress Oxide Inks in Vintage Photo and Fossilized Amber, available as add ons.  I use this technique often to give my photos and layers of cardstock a place to rest.

The flowers are stamped using the Beautiful Day Altenew acrylic stamps, also available in the store. Be still my heart!  These layering stamps are incredible!  I used regular Distress Inks in Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Tea Dye and Vintage Photo for the flowers and Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn and Pine Needles for the leaves. The Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform made the stamp layering so easy!  I embellished the flower clusters with the wood veneer photo strip and the clock button are from the kit.

I stamped part of the title directly on the background page using some alpha stamps from my stash and StazOn ink. The title was finished with some Thickers from the kit.

The final touch was some Nuvo Crystal Drops in Pale Gold another extra from the store. The colour matches papers perfectly!

For my last project, I created a pocket page spread.

The embellishments are all from the kit except the alpha stickers and wood veneer heart that are from my stash. (Note that I used another homemade "flair badge" on the journaling card. Check out yesterday's blog post for instructions on how I made them.)

I tend to take a lot of photos at a particular event and I love being able to mix pocket pages in with regular 12x12 pages. But sometimes I don't have enough photos to do front and back for both page protectors. So, to have one 12x12 page on one side and a pocket page on the other, I sew two page protectors together to make one.

I start with the pocket page that will be on the left.  Usually, the openings to slide in the photos is on the right side.  So, to have ability to remove or add photos, I cut an opening with a ruler and craft knife. (Please don't mind my very dirty and stained craft mat!)

Then I layer the 12x12 page protector over the pocket page protector, lining up the holes and keeping it all together with paper clips.

Using my sewing machine, I sew on each side of the protectors, but NOT THE TOP!  Otherwise, you won't be able to get your 12x12 page back inside. ;)

This is what it looks like once all the pages are inserted.

Scrap Shotz September Kit Projects with Sylvie

I'm so excited to be sharing my first projects as part of the Scrap Shotz Design Team! I'm extremely honoured to be a part of this talented group. I love creating from a kit and I hope I'll be able to give you ideas on how to get the most our of yours.

The fact that the kit this month was the Carta Bella Transatlantic Travel line made me so happy.  I am in the middle of scrapbooking a recent trip to Cuba, and the minute I saw the collection, I knew it would work with photos we took on a sightseeing tour.

I loved the compass theme in this line, so I cut one using a Silhouette file.  I sprayed it with mist while it was still on the cutting mat. Once it was dry, I removed it from the mat and backed with some of the patterned paper.  For added dimension, I machine stitched the points on the compass. I used some old foam Thickers from my stash to create the title. I was inspired to use the quote from one of the 3x4 cards in the collection which worked so well with my compass. After that, there wasn't much embellishing that needed to be done.

I used an old arrow stamp to give a place for the Carta Bella stickers to rest.  I used some Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops in Midnight Blue (a kit extra) to make my own enamel dots.  I LOVE those!

Speaking of the Nuvo drops, the Crystal Glace is a very cool product and I used it to make embellishments for this next page.

I started by punching a 1 inch circle and then taping it to my work surface with regular scrapping adhesive.  This keeps the circle from curling.  Then I applied thin layers of the Glace over the entire surface of the circle.  It starts out cloudy, but dries clear.  After 3 coats, I created my own flair badge! This is when it is still cloudy. ;)

While those were drying, I took a piece of vellum from my stash and using the Echo Park embossing folder (a kit extra), created a piece of embossed vellum.  The pattern of the embossing folder created two columns of words, so I decided to cut the vellum in half vertically and placed it above and below my photo to make it look like a long strip.  I cut another Silhouette cut file to create a leafy pattern from the "Vintage Letters" paper and layered strips of paper along side it.  The title is also a Silhouette file that was cut from the cardstock in the kit. I embellished the page with some of the tags and two of my "flair badges".

June Scrapshotz Kit - Carta Bella - Old World Traveller

Hello! It's Lorraine here with my projects from the June 2016 Scrapshotz kit. First of all, I created a layout using Rosie's sketch.  Here is her sketch.

And here is my take on it.

 

I also did a 2 pager with some 5x7 photos from Mexico. This paper lends itself to old fashioned travel pics.

 

My next project was to make some masculine cards with the patterned paper. Here are my instructions on how to create 6 cards from 2 pieces of this paper.

1. Cut off the ID strip on the patterned paper, then cut 1.5" of the top. Do not discard this strip, as we will use it as accents.

2. Cut the paper vertically into 3 strips. They will be 10.5" tall and 4' wide. Cut these 4" strips in half, so we have 6 equal patterned paper pieces, 4"x5.25". 

3. Using scrap pieces of cardstock in neutral colors, cut card fronts 4.25"x5.5". Here is what we now have.

4. Mount any patterned paper piece onto the cardstock base, centering it. I most often ink the edges with a distress ink and a foam applicator. 

 

5. Trim a 1/2" off the top and side of another piece of the same patterned paper. Flip it over, ink the edges and center it on your card front. This is where we are at this point.

6. Ink the edges of one of the 1/2" strips you just cut off the piece of patterned paper. Adhere it over the card with the alternate pattern showing.

7. We're almost done. You can go any way with this simple card base. I chose to mount a sticker from the line onto a piece of cardstock and put it on the card with dimensional adhesive. A trio of enamel dots and my card is complete.

 

8. Using variations of this basic formula and the rest of the paper pieces, I was able to create 5 more cards from these 2 pieces of patterned paper. This card uses the opposite sides of the same patterns.
